For the past years, Environmental challenges has been abundant as the world continues to industrialize. While the economy is continuously rising the environment is primary affected, especially the rivers because of the different contaminants. To resolve the rising problems in the community, different water treatments are done nowadays to improve the quality of water. Effective Microorganisms are specific group of naturally occurring beneficial microorganisms discovered by a japanese scientist [1]. Through making of mud balls, these microorganisms are used to purify the water, and silt that are present which results to improvement of water quality [2]. In addition, agricultural wastes are now converted as charcoal, known as "biochar". Biochar also helps in different aspect such as modifying soil properties and water holding capacity [3]. Pili nut shells are abundant in Bicol region and since most of it are getting wasted, they used the shells as their main component in producing biochar. Pili nut shells are known to have high carbon content, and high adsorption capacity that can be an excellent water purifying material [4]. So with these, a study was formulated to use pili nut shells biochar as mud balls to improve the quality of water.
